about

Julianne Farella is a painter and art educator whose work explores the emotional terrain of comfort, longing, and distance through close observation of the natural and domestic world. Working primarily in abstract landscapes and still lifes, Julianne approaches each subject with a deep attentiveness. She translates external artifacts and quiet scenes into emotional landscapes. Her paintings function as a form of processing, where collected impressions from the world are reflected back with sensitivity and feeling. Her work examines the tension between presence and absence as well as place and memory.

Art is a method of collecting, reflecting, and understanding both internal states and the tangible world. She sees her creative practice as an act of recording that is imbued with emotional resonance and an urge to understand the intricacies of daily experience through a visual lens.

Julianne holds a BFA in Drawing and Painting (2019) and a BS in Art Education (2019) from SUNY New Paltz, as well as an MSEd in Art Education (2021).

Julianne is the co-founder and owner of Petite Art Studio in Katonah, NY. As a NYS Certified K–12 Art Teacher, she teaches middle school art in White Plains, and leads classes for all ages from kindergarteners to adults, at Petite Art Studio. In her teaching spaces, Julianne encourages students to look closely and feel deeply. Her goal is to cultivate emotional reflection and a sense of wonder in her students, helping them engage with both the natural and emotional worlds they encounter in their everyday lives.
